Following Sony Pictures' acquisition of the rights in 2009, the project underwent numerous screenplay revisions and saw several potential directors, including John Chu, McG, and David S. Goyer, enter and exit discussions. This continued until 2022, when Netflix took over the rights, encouraged by its animated series featuring Kyle Allen as He-Man. However, Netflix abandoned the film the next year due to financial constraints, leaving Allen without his major movie opportunity. Subsequently, Amazon MGM assumed control, appointing Travis Knight, known for Bumblebee and Kubo and the Two Strings, as the director and selecting Nicholas Galitzine, from 2021’s Cinderella and 100 Nights of Hero, to portray He-Man.
