1961年3月13日，郭沫若在广州和陈寅恪见面。据谢保成《龙虎斗与马牛风——论中国现代史学与史家》（第235页，三联书店，2012年），郭沫若当天日记：“同乃超去看陈寅恪，他生于丙寅，我生于壬辰，我笑说今日相见是龙虎斗。伊左目尚能见些白光，但身体甚弱，今年曾病了好久。胃肠不好，血压不大高。不相信中药，自言平生不曾用过参。”这次见面后，留下一副对联：“壬水庚金龙虎斗，郭聋陈瞽马牛风”。这副对联，据陆键东《陈寅恪的最后二十年》注释说，郭沫若秘书王戎笙曾在电话中告诉他，此联郭陈各半，此为一说。
